Viagra – the little blue pill

I know this is an important topic due the fact that this is the most bought prescription pharmaceutical online. Also when the term the little ‘blue pill is mentioned’ a lot of people recognize that as many the erectile dysfunction drug. The actual name of the medication is Sildenafil and the main brand that sells it is Viagra which is the generic name. There are a range of other brands but they aren’t aswell known and have heard the quality isn’t of such great quality.

When I was talking about the optimal diet for erections and penis enlargement pills which are a subset of just herbal erectile pills I didn’t think the topic was fully complete without mentioning about the famous little blue pill Viagra due to its well knownness and popularity.

Quite A Hit For The Pharmaceutical Companies

I mentioned it in a reply back to a comment that pharmaceuticals are big business being a multi billion dollar industry. Instead of curing the underlining cause of an illness or ailment, medications are prescribed as a quick solution temporary solution to the problem as this will cause a long term customer to keep coming back for more of the treatment instead of a permanent solution.

Actually I believe Viagra is one of the best-selling medications to ever be sold in the world making over a billion dollars a year alone making this a great example.

In previous posts I briefly mentioned about the health problems that erectile dysfunction is a symptom of such as reduced cardiovascular health. Taking a quick fix with an artificial pill will do nothing to improve the metabolic problems such as high blood pressure (BP), diabetes, arteriosclerosis, possible nerve damage and hormonal issues. The occurrence of impotence has often been stated as one of the first possible signs of first symptoms of future coronary heart disease.

This could be a direct result of blood vessel narrowing or indirectly with the metabolic conditions that encourage less than optimal blood vessel health overtime. A lot of these conditions are interlinked for example fatty plaque on vessel walls narrows arteries for less blood flow aswell as the plague prevents the all important nitric oxide from entering the blood stream which aids circulatory health not to mention erections. I hope that is easy to understand as I could carry on but want to keep this simple and relevant but what I’m getting at is this a complex interaction of processes. Maybe not too complex to me anyway.

Meds For A Quick Fix

Talking about hormonal issues that could be another example of how a quick fix is offered rather than fixing the root problem such as when treating low testosterone levels.

Again the root cause isn’t solved which could be from a combination of diet, environmental toxins, other interacting hormonal issues further up the path etc but instead the easily available and most convenient solution to the problem is given in the form of TRT (testosterone hormone therapy).

Negative side effects such excess estrogen being produced is often the result of injectable testosterone which is exactly what you don’t want. This is the body’s ways of counteracting the artificial rise of the male hormone by converting it into something else as the body likes to keep in balance also called homeostasis. I wouldn’t have the right to comment on this if I didn’t at least have some experience with injectable testosterone which I did try out briefly largely out of curiosity for the athletic performance just as much as the psychological effects.

As I was on it for only a few weeks I didn’t get an significant physical improvement which is over hyped (meant to be at least 10 weeks others have told me) nor did it do much libido wise. I did get what many also get is the increase of 1-2 kg of water weight. This is from the side effect of conversion into estrogen which in my opinion isn’t a good thing. I also noticed this holding of water when getting up first thing in the morning with no urge to go for a pee.

That extra water will raise blood pressure which isn’t good for erections not to mention the estrogen reducing sex drive and just generally something to be avoided in men unless you want man boobs. This just doesn’t happen with natural methods of raising testosterone.

Further on the same general topic commonly prescribed drugs which are handed out fairly liberally like opiates, beta blockers, statins, tranquilizers etc have a negative effect on natural on testosterone and therefore erections. Notice the irony that beta blockers and statins, for high BP and poor cholesterol levels which are bad conditions for erectile health, are medications that cause another problem for impotence.

I have personally experienced this drop in mojo from a brief encounter with opiates and it isn’t a minor change either but quite noticeable and lasting quite sometime after discontinuation. Getting back to the blue pill…

What It Is And History

Viagra was discovered when scientists were trying to discover a new heart medication to treat pulmonary hypertension and improved lung function. In fact, it is sometimes used for this purpose aswell as general blood pressure lowering, though this is not so well-known about.

It is a PDE5 inhibitor which means it doesn’t directly cause an increase in nitric oxide(NO) but enhances the vasodialtion actions of NO in the penis. NO increases a chemical called cGMP which relaxes smooth muscle. A PDE5 inhibitor blocks the enzyme which breaks down cGMP so higher levels are produced. The relaxing of the smooth muscle causes the filing of blood. The other erectile dysfunction drugs such as Cialis and Levitra also come under this category. Viagra isn’t purely a PDE5 inhibitor and so also other actions in the body causing mild depending on the dose side effects eg higher dosages will cause blurred vision, sweating, insomnia and affecting heart beat.

Cases where the PDE5 inhibitors don’t work well is in diabetics where the cavity of the spongy tissue leaks therefore even with the help of dilating vessels the blood isn’t keep in the penis well.

Also another downside about it is it isn’t meant to be prescribed for the purpose of sexual intercourse to guys with very high blood pressure (I know as I have an older friend who can’t get it from a doctor for this very reason) which kind of is a little contradictory to its use for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Some goes with guys with quite low BP. I guess a medication that alters BP as a side effect can’t be taken by anyone on either end of the extremes without being closely monitored.

Horny Goat weed is also a PDE5 inhibitor, yet a relatively weak one. There are also some other natural PDE5 inhibitors such as black ginger which I haven’t tried yet but am keen to try out.

The Natural Ways From Food

As a general health expert (but with all things cockular with this website) I tried having powdered turmeric a few times for its multitude of benefits ranging from improved brain health, it being great for inflammation, improved blood sugar and lipid levels etc. In this case I was more targeting the cognitive aspect.

Having it as a dried powder didn’t do much but boiling and drinking it did obviously result in better absorption of the goodness. As a side note curcumin is the strongest active compound in turmeric so you will often hear those two names used together. Cognitive chances are subtle so no noticeable change there especially overnight but what I did notice is waking up with the hardest morning glory I have had in years. The first thing in the morning erections lasting a good 10-15 minutes after waking up.

Had to tilt entire body over to about 60 degrees with the floor using one hand to support me against a wall to urinate in the toilet. This was accompanied with a noticeable diuretic effect as I was quite full. The reduced inflammation prevents holding onto water. Standing at full mast and just too rigid to push down by hand. That is the kind response you want your body to have to know you are in close to 100% condition as far as your wood producing ability is. Reminds me of when about 15 when I had the same trouble on a daily basis when first getting up in the morning to go for a pee. Amazingly at that age I could have quite a bad diet and the same thing would happen. Just shows what you can get away with the body at that age but seriously you can a great result from turmeric so be sure to try it out. Not trying to be graphic but this just illustrates my point of what is 100% in erection producing ability like.

In the post about diet for harder erections I also did mention about watermelon with its l citrulline content (the rind having the highest) being a favorite among men for natural foods for decreasing impotence. This has created the popularity for the natural Viagra alternative using watermelon and lemon juice mixed together to make a healthy alternative. I’m guessing the lemon juice is added for its vitamin c, antioxidant and detoxing properties. The verdict is that most agree that it is nowhere near as powerful but mixed in with a healthy lifestyle it will all help with achieving better blood flow to the groin. Both the watermelon and lemon are diuretics which will help with lowering blood pressure which is usually a good thing.

Also, there is a not so well-known vitamin that is worth a brief mention referred to as vitamin K2, not to be confused with K1. K2 is meant to improve calcium use in the body by removing it from plague in the blood stream and depositing it into the bones. Is said to also improve teeth alignment in the jaw/mouth region of the face. So I tried both types the mk4 and mk7 versions of K2 and as I got a very slight crowding of the lower teeth I decided to see what would happen. Having both forms for 3 months at least didn’t notice anything noticeable. This magical vitamin as its made out to be I would believe maybe a little bit made out to be more than it really is. Which Exercise And Final Note

Exercise will be another great addition to add in creating a healthy lifestyle which in turn will help in the bedroom. Aerobic exercise like swimming, running or cycling mainly will over time lower blood pressure and increase nitric oxide levels. Anaerobic exercise such as weightlifting will obviously not as much of a benefit for the cardiovascular system but will still help by improving things such as insulin sensitivity which means better NO levels.

Of the aerobic exercise I have seen conflicting results of which is the better methods – to keep a consistent pace for 20-30 or to do brief sprints of what’s called interval training. Some believe interval training is best as it trains the heart adapt from a fast beating pace to resting pace several times within a session there by creating a better resting hear rate and blood pressure.

The main concept here is that its OK to use Viagra in the meantime as a quick solution but there are better ways of solving this problem which will improve your overall health also and be more of a long term fix for a number of years although the aging process will also have an impact.
